It seems as though you can’t have a conversation about online marketing, websites or even blogging these days without the topic of SEO coming up. Well, contrary to what has probably been crammed down your throat nonstop, search engine optimization is not always the answer! Sure it’s easy to believe that perhaps your lack of success is due to poor SEO tactics but sometimes it’s really not. This also means that you may need to seek other answers to whatever problems you may be having.
When Paying for SEO is a Waste of Money
Whether you have already dumped a ton of money into SEO tools and have not seen any benefits or if you are considering investing, there are some circumstances when paying for SEO is a complete waste of money. The following a few good examples:
- When free keyword search tools as well as a little common sense tells you that your business doesn’t show a large interest with online readers.
- The business you are in relies on immediate sales or commitments.
- Black Hat strategies are an important component in your marketing campaign.
- When you are looking at SEO to be your primary profit source. You cannot tweak your SEO and expect to get rich overnight. SEO should be a component of a well-rounded marketing campaign not the only character in a production.
- If you are relying on improved SEO to improve your page rank. Content and quality backlinks play key roles too that must not be overlooked.
- When your goal is to move up a few positions on searches. If you are already at number three, it is foolish to spend money and time changing content to focus on one keyword in hopes that you will move up to the number one position. You are already on the first page; why press your luck?
- When SEO isn’t necessary to sell your product or service.
- If it will take you a significant number of sales to make up for what you’re investing in SEO and your profit margin is already scarce.
Examples of Failed SEO Techniques
- Although SEO did help to improve traffic, rank and even sales, the profit resulted wasn’t substantial enough to cover the expenses.
- Traffic and ranking improved but sales did not.
- Ranking improved due to SEO but traffic stayed the same. Traditionally this is because there isn’t an online demand for the product or service which could have been determined with a simple keyword search.
- SEO was successful but it is too costly to continue with.
- SEO just didn’t work. Money was invested, everything was done right but for some reason, it simply didn’t help.
Do You Have the Need?
If you don’t have a few hundred dollars to invest monthly for Adwords, paying for SEO tools may not be for you. Interestingly, there are people who don’t believe Adwords is money well spent. If you don’t see the value in paying for targeted traffic, why would you think spending money on SEO would be a wise investment?
You could invest thousands of dollars in SEO and see absolutely no improvement whatsoever or you could take that money and invest it in Pay Per Click search and see immediate results that you can actually track. If you can only afford to do one or the other, Adwords is a much better strategy to invest your money in.
