Measuring the Effectiveness of Your Blog

If you’re trying to promote your business, whether it is a typical online business or a dental practice, it is very likely that you will have to delve into the world of blog marketing. But just like other marketing strategies, it’s very important that you should be able to evaluate the effectiveness of your blog. The very first thing that you should do when evaluating your blog is to break your blog marketing plans into two parts – the first should deal with your own blogs and the second will involve your responses to other blogs. This post will talk about the first part.

Evaluating your blog

When you’re trying to evaluate your blog, the entire process is quite similar to when you’re judging your company website with just a few differences.

Web Analytical Tools. You can use the same web analytical tools which you use for your website on your blog. You can use the same parameters that you use on your website on your blog and evaluate your blog’s performance using average analytical tools like Google Analytics for instance.

Basically, all web analytical tools function similarly. The only difference is in how you use the correct code for the main page of your blog. But once you have done that, you can evaluate the performance of your blog using almost any kind of parameter. Here are some common parameters used on websites:

Number of pages viewed. You need to keep an eye on this parameter in order for you to get a good idea on whether traffic going to your site has increased or not. You will also see which pages are being viewed the most which will give you a good idea of what is working.

Exclusive visitors. The reason for using this parameter is similar to that of the first parameter. However, with this parameter you can get a clearer idea of how many visitors regularly visit your blog. By keeping track of this parameter for a particular period of time will indicate whether the number of your visitors are increasing or declining.

Duration of visitors’ stay in the blog site. What this parameter allows you to find out is whether or not your visitors are patiently reading through the pages of your blog site and taking the time to check out the content or if they just linger for a couple of seconds or so before leaving. You need to consider this parameter when evaluating your blog because you don’t just want traffic, you need visitors to enjoy your site and be swayed by its content, and this doesn’t happen when they all leave abruptly.

Sources of visitors. This is will allow you to find out exactly where your visitors are coming from. You will see two main types of sources, keywords and referrals from other sites. By examining your traffic sources you can do more of what is working and find out what is not working.
