Identity theft has become a grim reality that everyone should be aware of. The fact is that over 12 million Americans become a victim of identity theft each year. There are ways to increase your security against identity thieves.
When you purchase items online, you should use a credit card. If you use your debit card, then you risk having your cash stolen and you may not have access to your money for days. That’s because once you report the matter to the bank, they will likely freeze your account before looking into the matter. If you have used your debit card for online purchases, you should monitor your account daily.
Some banks have strict policies and time limits in which you are to report suspicious account activity. If you don’t check your account on a daily basis, you could become a victim without knowing it. Most credit card companies offer you protection against fraud and identity theft. But most important, you will have access to the cash in your checking account, should you become a victim of identity theft.
