One unavoidable part of life is death. At one time or another, in the course of our lives, it is just unavoidable that we will come across with the death of a loved one. During these depressing moments comes the obligation of making funeral arrangements. Funerals usually vary in various countries, culture, and religion. In spite of the variations on how funerals are carried out around the world, they all have one thing in common in that they honor the life and memory of the dead and for the loved ones to offer a final goodbye.
No funeral is the same. Funeral services can now be personalized depending on the family background or beliefs. Although there could be some generalities to modern funerals, personal touches could be incorporated in order to reflect the unique personality of the deceased. Funerals usually start with a wake viewing. Customarily, the casket is opened for viewings, though several families opt not to open the casket and instead display pictures of their departed one.
Naturally, funerals as well has some form of service. Again, depending on the family’s particular religion or tradition, the service could take place at a funeral parlor or in a church, synagogue, or any other place of worship. In order to create this segment of the funeral more customized, loved ones usually perform readings or excerpts from poems or literature that was particularly special to the deceased.
On the other hand, other family members would prefer having the memorial service in some other time when the burial is over. In this non-traditional setting, families and friends can gather at any special place to pay respect to the deceased without the presence of the casket.
Burial services are another part of the funeral planning. The family can select from different types of cemetery plots and mausoleums. These days, cremation is one of the popular options wherein the family can spread the remains in a particularly meaningful location or keep in an urn.
You can customize a funeral by adding special touches and making it a lovely and lasting one. But in the end, funerals should accomplish what it’s really meant for, to honor the life of the deceased.
