Enjoying Driving and Staying in Germany

bukiki-hotelsdeutsche-banner Germany, famous for her advanced engineering, has became the origin of the world’s first automobile and the world’s first motorway (Autobahn). Although Germany has the busiest road systems in the world, due to good driving habits of the citizens, speed limits are placed selectively only on dangerous or congested stretches and where traffic noise or pollution problems may occur.

You can find driving in Germany’s major cities like Berlin, Frankfurt, Köln and Munich is very safe and amusing. To make it more comfortable for tourists and travellers to drive across Germany, maps are designed to help drivers easily recognize national roads (Bundesstraßen), country roads (Landesstraße), and state roads (Staatsstraße).

Bundesstraßen appear as black digits on a yellow rectangle with black border on direction traffic signs and street maps. They are often referred to as “B” befre its number (B1). the lower the number indicates the more important the route. East-west oriented roads usually use odd numbers, while north-south routes use even numbers. Bypass routes are recognized with an added “a” (alternative) or “n” (new alignment) like “B 12n”.

Other roads like Landesstraße and Staatsstraße are prefixed by each “L”, “S” or “St”. however, they’re not usually seen on direction signs or maps. They usually appear on the kilometre posts on the roadside. Numbers are unique only within one state.
