CoComment – Integrated Tracking of Your Wide Spread Comments

March 8, 2008, filed under General Tips

How do you check responses to your comments? How do you update yourself on interesting conversations? If you’re still counting on email notifications or RSS, or even maybe manually visiting the post’s page, here’s a handy solution to manage and observe discussions in many sites without cluttering your mailbox. You can also track people’s banters without having to throw yourself in.

coComment your comments! CoCommenting enables you to view all of your conversations in one simple page. This way, no worries forgetting the posts you commented, no more frantic refresh to see a reaction to your comment, and easily watch various debate on the blogosphere on one location. Exciting!

HomeBiz - CoComment

To enjoy all the benefits, create your coComment account right away. The registration is very simple and after you’ve done that, proceed to figure out how coComment makes your life easier…

….Done with the registrations, there is one of the two things to be done to begin centralizing conversations

  • installing coComment extension for FireFox, OR
  • creating a bookmarklet

Which one is the best? I chose the coComment extension for Firefox. Not only that I myself use FireFox (you can get the browser from the picture), using the bookmark requires me to click on it before I comment. So there’s a possibility where I forgot to do so. It also means a few microcalories wasted to remember doing an extra click (and doing it) :D . Contrary, installing the extension enables me to comment directly and the extension will automatically enters the conversation into my “My Conversations” page. Once again, automated!

Now you can see your conversations in your “My Conversations” page. Access the page from the “My coComment” tab under the header.

When you commented on a post and have your coComment activated, the post URL will be collected along with the comments like above. Bolded posts are posts with new comments since your last comment. You can also see when the last time a comment was submitted on the post is. If you want to see the comments on the post, just click the post’s title and it’ll expand viewing all the responses to the post. If you want to reply to the comments, you need to go to the blog itself. You cannot comment from your coComment account (it’ll drive bloggers crazy!).

Now how about watching a discussion if you’re not willing to participate yet? Or you want to see how things develop and jump in at the right moment without having to refresh he page all the time?

In order to do this, I think you need to install the extension for FireFox. Then when you enter a page with a comment section, you’ll see a coComment extra slim widget below the comment box.

Now you can click on “Track this conversation” and the comments will be displayed on your “My Conversations” page. You don’t need to say something there. Just click the button.

Is that it? NO!

Your “My Conversations” page can also be viewed by other coCommentors. They can click your links and follow the conversations you found/engage. How could that make a benefit to you? You can track your own blog post and people will see your posts on your links. This way provides you extra traffic to your blog. Just don’t spam your own account :) .

So, what’s your opinion? How you think of coComment? Will grab more attention? Does it make life less painless checking comments in one site? Say your words below…and you can experiment on coComment using this post. Just sign up for coComment and comment, then follow the conversation from your account!

Update: You can also track your posts in forums! The same way as using it for commenting on blogs.

It seems that anything you could ever want on the Internet is being created by someone. This sounds like a great idea that I will have to look into. I often forget where I have commented and rarely see the responses. I usually visit the site a few days later and remember that I commented on an earlier post. So CoComment sounds like a real solution for anyone who comments on blogs regularly. Thanks for sharing this resource.

You’re welcome, Jim. This great service actually started since 2006 as beta. And has been improved with more features making it an ideal solution as we know now.
